Learn about Mind Lumen’s mission, the Ethical Reputation System, and how we’re making ethics measurable.
Mind Lumen is the only organization with a measurement system for ethics across the psychedelic industry. Through the Ethical Reputation System (ERS™), we provide independent third-party certification with quantifiable 1–100 scores, randomized audits, and annual recertification. We’re deeply aligned with organizations like Chacruna (chacruna.net) and Usona Institute (usonainstitute.org), who exemplify observable ethical practice in their own work. Mind Lumen adds the complementary measurement layer to verify and scale these standards industry-wide.
Mind Lumen doesn’t just operate ethically ourselves — we measure and certify ethics across the industry. Like B Lab certifies B Corps, we provide independent verification. Zero conflicts of interest: we don’t facilitate journeys, sell medicine, or take referral fees. We just certify providers based on observable, measurable criteria.
Observable means clear criteria that is visibly observable in ethics codes of conduct or guidelines. Measurable means quantifiable scores (ERS scores 1–100) by an independent organization without any provider conflicts of interest. Auditable means randomized independent verification. This contrasts with 5-star reviews (gamed by euphoria), self-certification (conflicts of interest), or vague "ethical pledges" (unverifiable).
No. We’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit that certifies providers — we don’t provide facilitation or medical or other psychological services ourselves. This separation ensures zero conflicts of interest. Our service delivery arm, Lumara, matches seekers to certified providers but doesn’t facilitate either. We’re the independent certifier, not a provider.
ERS is Mind Lumen’s certification system providing quantifiable ethics scores (1–100) for psychedelic providers. Built on five pillars: reputation scoring, certification, structured feedback, randomized audits, and adjudication. Unlike binary "ethical/unethical" judgments or crowdsourced reviews, ERS uses independent verification of observable criteria.
Mind Lumen (non-profit) defines, creates, and maintains the certification process. Lumara (Mind Lumen service) administers the certification and reputation system program, and matches seekers to certified providers. The audit program works like the Michelin Guide system with independent, randomized audits. Since we are not providers of care, there is separation that prevents conflicts of interest.
As our founder writes: "Seekers aren’t choosing a restaurant — they’re entrusting their minds to someone." Star ratings are crowdsourced and easily gamed, especially when written post-experience in states of euphoria. The stakes are too high for Yelp-style reviews. ERS uses objective, independently-verified criteria instead.
The system supports nine provider types: Facilitators, Therapists, Clinics, Retreats, Training Programs, Digital Apps, Sellers, Researchers, and Media. Current certification focus is on six types: Facilitators, Therapists, Clinics, Retreats, Training Programs, and Digital Apps. All must meet ERS criteria and undergo annual recertification.
Ethics should be your first criterion when choosing a provider — before price, location, or style. The Mind Lumen certification seal answers: "Has this provider been independently verified for ethical practice?" It’s the trust filter that narrows your search to certified providers, then you choose based on personal fit.
